Harbour Café is looking to strengthen its team! We are located on the Oosterhaven, a unique spot in Groningen. Our large and sunny terrace borders the Groningen canals. We are open 6 days a week for drinks and dinner. Our dinner menu is a mix of international and classic dishes. Our menus change seasonally. Our drinks, wine, cocktail, and craft beer menu is extensive and invites you to stay and enjoy drinks for a long time.

Job vacancy details:
We are looking for a Sous Chef to lead our team of multiple full-time and part-time cooks together with the Head Chef. In this role, you will be the Head Chef's right hand and part of the Harbour Cafe management team. You will create the dinner and drinks menus together with the Head Chef and share responsibility for the scheduling. Additionally, you will deputize for the Head Chef as Head of the Kitchen during their absence.
We consider it important that, as a sous chef, you are creative, eager to shape the company's culinary vision together with the management team, and a true team player. Additionally, you must have a good knowledge of HACCP and possess leadership skills.
Further specifications of the position:
- The position can be filled as of June 1, 2026; an earlier or later date is possible in consultation.
- 38 per week. (fewer is possible in consultation; we are happy to think along with you)
- You have completed a culinary training course and/or gained sufficient experience.
- You have a command of the Dutch language and a sufficient command of the English language.
- You are available both on weekdays and weekends.

What do we expect from you?:
- You have already gained the necessary work experience as a sous chef or are ready to take the step to sous chef.
- You are a team player, take initiative, and are a good leader.
- You are creative and would like to actively contribute to devising dishes for our menus.
- You have the right HACCP knowledge and know how to put this into practice in a kitchen.
- You are available both on weekdays and weekends; you create the schedule together with the head chef. You understand that Harbour Cafe is primarily a terrace establishment and therefore a “summer business.” Consequently, you have ample availability to work during the summer months.
