Groningen is the poorest city in the Netherlands. And the Food Bank in Groningen provides the Food Bank nearly 2000 people every week of food. No less than 1 in 5 children lives in poverty in our City.
Food and foodstuffs offered by the Food Bank come from individuals and companies. The Food Bank is completely dependent on it.
But also the people who work there, 100 in total, all do this voluntarily. The driver, secretary, cleaner, manager and board. Nobody gets paid.
Maarten Burger owns cafe buckshot en Grand Cafe Groningen cared about the fate of the Food Bank. And as a catering entrepreneur, he knows better than anyone what hard work is. And that's why he put the volunteers in the spotlight last Tuesday. The volunteers who sometimes work 6 days a week from 7 to 4 hours.
He has therefore selflessly put together a delicious three-course menu for all volunteers. The volunteers had a delicious meal and were especially grateful that Mr Burger offered this so selflessly.
