About ten kilometers above the city of Groningen you will find our restaurant Garnwerd aan Zee!
No, the restaurant is not located by the sea. Our name is a tribute to the past when, until 1877, the water that flows here still ebbs and flows and it was a busy route for trade and fishing vessels.
The windjammers and peat barges have disappeared from the Reitdiep, and tjalks are only seen there sporadically. Yet the Reitdiepdal, like the village of Garnwerd, has managed to retain much of its age-old charm. Garnwerd aan Zee is a modern restaurant, but is proud to have found a place in this rich historical environment.
Food
Good food and drinks thrive even better in beautiful surroundings. In addition to the large, yet intimate restaurant, you can also take a seat on one of the terraces, where the vastness of the Reitdiep comes into its own. For the children there is a lovely play beach with trampolines. If you come with your boat, and it is no longer than 20 meters, you can moor in our harbour. We also moored a ship ourselves. 'The Good Expectation' is more than a century old and carefully restored tjalk, which we make available to our guests for all kinds of purposes.
