In the almost four hundred year old Goudkantoor you can enjoy yourself in many ways. In the morning for breakfast and a good cup of coffee, in the afternoon for a soup or extensive lunch and in the evening for a delicious dinner. Moreover, the Goudkantoor is known as a pleasant drinks spot with an extensive beer and wine list.
The restaurant on the top floor offers a beautiful view over the Waagplein, the old town hall and the Grote Markt. This floor is particularly suitable for group arrangements, drinks and graduation parties!
In the summer, the Goudkantoor has one of the largest and nicest terraces in the city. Located directly behind the town hall, and diagonally to the Grote Markt. At about ten o'clock in the morning it is already wonderful to relax here with a fresh cup of coffee in the sun. The terrace is popular with the many tourists who visit our city, and is the regular hangout for many city residents and students! During sultry summer evenings, people have drinks here until the early hours.
The Gold Office was built in 1635 and was then called the Collectehuis. It was a tax office for Stad en Ommeland. The name dates from the period 1814-1887. At that time the building was used as a guarantee office for gold and silver works. Here gold and silver objects were inspected and provided with a mark. Since that time, the building has had many functions, including before, during and after the war as a shipping museum, tourist office, after which it served as a town house or information desk for the municipality of Groningen during the construction of the new town hall, which has since been demolished.
There are plenty of options for a la carte lunch, dinner or drinks! You can find these on our website: www.goudkantoor.nl
