Oblomov is the best-known novel by the Russian writer Ivan Goncharov. First published in 1858, the novel is named after the protagonist, the young and generous Russian nobleman Ilya Oblomov, who is unable to make decisions or act. He can't even get out of bed for the first 150 pages of the book, and for the rest of the book he's mostly in bed. His passivity costs him the love of Olga, who ultimately chooses the energetic and disciplined Andrej Stolz.
