Ton Opgenhaffen is Dutch Beer Tapping Champion 2013. The innkeeper of café La Clé in Maastricht won the prize on the third day of the Horecava 2013 fair. Opgenhaffen scored highly with the professional jury due to his presentation and eye for detail when tapping.
Twenty-five finalists competed against each other for the coveted title. The finalists had to tap two whistles, two vases and two specialty beers (a winter beer and a Weizener) in front of the public.
“My moment”
The beers were served on a tray for the jury, which consisted of beer professionals and former winners. “I'm overjoyed! It's always a snapshot, but this all went well. This was my moment”, says Ton Opgenhaffen with pride.
Optimal performance
Opgenhaffen performed optimally this year. He poured the beers in a solid way and managed to convince the jury. Jury chairman Gerrit Verweij: “At this top level, it's all about the details; is the foam head the same everywhere, do we see bubbles, is the glass not held too high? At Ton Opgenhaffen we have not seen a single mistake, a fantastic presentation and a deserved winner.”
