The small-scale cultural Theater Tapas festival is celebrating its fifth anniversary this year (4 to 6 March) by offering a stage for novice theater makers in the Ebbingekwartier for three days. Tapas refers to various small bites of theater at this festival, not the well-known small Spanish snacks.
From Friday 4 to Sunday 6 March 2016, the lustrum edition of the Theater Tapas Festival Place. Waiters guide the audience along a route of different types of theater. In this way, novice theater makers are given the opportunity to show their work to the public and scouts.
Route and program
The various routes start at the main location Het Paleis, followed by locations such as Platform Gras, the Watertoren, the game store De Purperen Draak, Open Lab Ebbinge and the Machinefabriek of the NNT. The evening will be concluded at Het Paleis with drinks and live music – with snacks. On Sundays there is also a children's and family program in which, among other things, a visual artist will create shadow theater with children from 4 to 12 years old.
Growth
The initiative lies with three graduate theater designers from Minerva who noticed that the supply of stages in Groningen was disappointing; reason enough to create your own stage. In the first edition, three performances by three theater makers were exhibited to 100 visitors. Now, after five years, there are eight acts in different art disciplines: from tap dance to poetry and from traditional theater to dance. It can be seen as a fun night out; it is barrier-free and therefore a fun way to get to know theater.
“We are there for theater makers with big plans without a stage. We bring the public, theater makers and entrepreneurs together in a mix of performance, special locations and conviviality”. Said artistic director Andrea Hooymans.
