The tropical temperatures are back. The KNMI expects the afternoon temperature to be 22 degrees or higher on Tuesday 23 and Wednesday 2014 July 27. This means that the Tropical Weather Scenario (TWS) for the catering industry is once again in force. The terraces may remain open longer on these days.
Later in the week, the municipal catering inspectors will check whether the TWS will also apply for the following days. The weather forecasts are promising. Last week, the Tropical Weather Scenario was also in effect from Thursday 17 to Sunday 20 July.
Tropical Weather Scenario
Catering entrepreneurs may keep their terraces open for one hour longer on days when the weather forecast is 27C or higher. Former mayor Rehwinkel decided that three years ago. So within the Diepenring until 3 a.m., outside the Diepenring until 2 a.m. Furthermore, they are allowed to put the patio chairs outside as early as 11.00 a.m. in a larger area than normal. Catering entrepreneurs without a terrace permit are also allowed to put tables and chairs outside on those days, provided the passage for pedestrians is not hindered.
Vibrance
The rules on tropical days have been relaxed to promote liveliness in the city and to allow citizens and the catering industry to take advantage of the beautiful weather. The municipality's catering inspectors determine whether the Tropical Weather Scenario is applicable on the basis of the KNMI's weather forecast.
