The Dutch catering industry has grown strongly in the past year with 1.000 catering establishments. The growth was driven by an increase in the number of restaurants, lunchrooms and takeaway/delivery locations. The number of drink providers continues to fall.

Most growth in takeaway/delivery locations, lunchrooms and restaurants with a national cuisine
The number of takeaway/delivery outlets grew by 14% in the past year to more than 2.300 points of sale. Lunchrooms are also on the rise in the Dutch hospitality landscape, for example, more than 200 new points of sale were opened in the past year. Since 2010, the growth has been more than 55%, so that the Netherlands now has almost 2.000 lunchrooms. The number of restaurants with a national cuisine recovered in number last year after the sharp decline during the economic crisis.

Number of bar/cafes continues to fall
The downward trend in the number of cafés in the Netherlands will continue in 2015. Last year, no fewer than 190 cafes had to close their doors permanently. The number of discotheques also decreased further in the past year. Since 2010, the number of nightclubs has fallen by almost 40%.

Growing number of outlets in Full Service and Quick Service segments
The driving force behind the recovery in the number of establishments in the hospitality industry is the rapidly rising quick service segment. In total, 817 points of sale were added in this segment last year. The number of restaurants also increased with a total of 327 new businesses.
