The company Scharrelvlees Drenthe supplies veal and beef that are guaranteed not to contain any antibiotics or gluten. The animals are kept with great care in an organic dairy farm in Wapserveen in Drenthe.
Livestock farming also complies in the broadest sense with current animal welfare, according to the control organization SKAL, which inspects for reliable organic production on behalf of the Ministry of Economic Affairs. The organic dairy farm contains both buildings and housing for the animals, which consist entirely of sustainable wood from Scandinavia. Here the cows and calves lie in a spacious postal shed on a straw bed and have free range to the meadows; calves walk with their mother.
Dog Care
According to the dairy farm, each animal has its own nature and character and that is included in the naming of the animals. Other dairy farms use antibiotics to prevent their animals from getting sick, the company in Wapserveen has an antibiotic value of 0%, says owner Angelique Schipper. In this way the meat of the animals can be called antibiotics-free. In addition, the meat is gluten-free, which is due to the feed that the animals receive. Schipper does not use chunks, but natural hay that is harvested from unsprayed and unaffected grasses, flowers and plants from their own meadows.
Sales
Under the supervision of the farmer, the animals are taken to a Frisian regional butcher, who is also a butcher. The farmer then takes care of the meat himself. Finally, the meat is offered for sale on free-range meat-drenthe.nl and worried. Schipper no longer buys meat in the store, “You taste it, it tastes very different, you really taste what you eat. In the store, all the meat tastes the same, but that is strange, because every animal is different.”
Free-range meat Drenthe currently supplies meat to a regular customer base, including ECHOS Home Het Baken of the Veterans Institute in Darp and the (H)eerlijk Burger in Steenwijk and Meppel, but would like to grow in Groningen and in the future throughout the Netherlands.
