They call it the 'living room' of Groningen. The Market Hotel, a great eye-catcher on the East wall of the Grote Markt in City. Designed by the Berlin architect Thomas Müller. “A restaurant where you can sleep instead of a hotel where you can eat,” says manager Niek Strous. 'We consciously wanted to create a place that is accessible to everyone. That is why the entrance to the hotel is not directly in the restaurant.'
Extensive menu
That restaurant is called Café Willem Albert. A grand café where you can have breakfast every day from 7 a.m. After lunch and dinner you can also end it with a drink. The menu is very extensive and you can order sandwiches, burgers, wraps or soup. There is an extensive snack menu. But perhaps the best part is the appetizer dinner. From this you can put together a multi-course menu from 13 different dishes. Not suitable for eaters with choices.
And if you really can't choose, you can always go for the runner. According to Strous, that is and always will be the croquette on bread. But not in the 'ordinary' way, but delicious with some fresh raw vegetables and mustard mayo.
Groningen
Although The Market Hotel falls under Westcord Hotels (originally from Vlieland), Strous believes it is important to also promote Groningen. A bit subtle, yes. For example, the menu includes a Groningen meatball, and always a stew.
Own bakery
“Our bakery is a nice addition,” says Strous. 'We sell all fresh homemade pastries and tarts there.' How about a delicious piece of pumpkin pie, a whipped cream banana schnitt or a popcorn entremet. In addition, bread is baked all day long, which you can then take with you at home, for example.
Great light case
The store is light, fresh and spacious with nice corners everywhere. Suitable for larger groups or cozy for two. There is a beautiful bar in the middle of the café that creates a cozy atmosphere. That is also what you immediately notice when you enter. There is peace. The music is not too loud, you are immediately noticed as soon as you enter and you are also received very friendly by the staff. “That is also something we invest in,” says Strous. 'We employ our own hospitality trainer who trains our staff to ensure that we are as hospitable as possible. Of course, I cannot guarantee that everything will always go one hundred percent well, but we will do our utmost to do so.'
Café Willem Albert in The Market Hotel is open daily from 07.00:00.00 AM to XNUMX:XNUMX AM.
