It is perhaps one of the most fairytale-like places in our province, the estate Fraeylemaborg in Slochteren. From a distance you can see the beautiful castle shining. But just before that castle, on the left, you will find restaurant De Boerderij. The business of Merijn van Dijken and Aniek Busscher.

Cute little dresses
'When we started here, it was very dated, says Busscher. 'There were cutesy tablecloths on the table and tea was served in teapots. People often thought it was very posh, but that's exactly what we didn't want to be.' So those tablecloths were removed and De Boerderij became a business as the couple themselves had envisioned: accessible catering, accessible to everyone, but good.

A slightly hipper card
'We have made it a place where we would like to go ourselves', Busscher continues. 'A hospitable restaurant with a nice selection of specialty beers and a slightly different lunch menu. The lunch menu is more than the croquettes with bread that you see everywhere. Think of flammkuchen, good pan toasties and home-made nachos. Just a little bit hipper than what is on the menu elsewhere in the area, but not too crazy.'

For all seasons
The Farm is a place where you can be all year round, Busscher also knows. 'And more and more people from the city of Groningen know that too, they come to Slochteren to find some peace. In the summer you can sit on the terrace and the children can play to their heart's content in the grass around the terrace, or in the large climbing tree.'

In the winter, you can warm up nicely in De Boerderij after a lovely walk. 'We really have a fantastic big forest behind here where you can walk for hours', says Busscher. 'And of course you can also visit the museum. It is really the combination of the fairytale setting, the forest and the nice catering that makes this place so unique.
High tea, parties and celebrations
In addition to the grand café, De Boerderij also has two other rooms: the Heerenkamer, where you can join for an extensive high tea, dine with a large group (from 15 people) or hold a meeting with a view of the Fraeylemaborg. In addition, there is the Fraeylemazaal, suitable for parties, company drinks and so on.

The Farm is open Tuesday through Sunday from 11.00:17.00 AM to XNUMX:XNUMX PM. For more information, visit www.de-boerderij.net.
