Living and dining house for all. That's true WEEVA stands for. At the Gedempte Zuiderdiep in the city of Groningen. The place where waiters still hold the door open for you, they wear neat waistcoats, and real classic dishes are served. You really take a step back in time. At least for your feeling. The business breathes hospitality. Nothing is too crazy for her and everything is done with great attention and pleasure for the profession. Remarkably, they are all slightly older waiters. According to owner Fred Dalebout, this is because they often know how it all really works. "The young guard can learn from that," he says.

Soup kitchen and boarding house
The history of WEEVA starts in 1871. Back then it was the Groningen soup kitchen. People who were less fortunate could get a meal at WEEVA for little and sleep cheaply too. Around 1929, the building, with soup kitchen and boarding house, was renamed the Living and Eating House for All. Colloquially called WEEVA.
In the meantime, the company was still called Martin Hotel. That hotel, which is above the restaurant, has 117 rooms. In 2011 the name was changed back to WEEVA. The old familiar name returned to the facade.

Everyone comes to eat
A rich history that is indispensable in Groningen. According to Dalebout, WEEVA has always been for everyone, and still is today.
"We are not there for a specific target group," he explains. 'There really is a lot going on here. Students, elderly people who used to come here, now come here with their children, couples and also people who just come to eat every day. There are quite a few.'

Classic menu
The menu includes classics such as fried veal liver with bacon, black pudding with apple, sole, stews and poffert with vanilla ice cream. “Everything is made fresh,” says Dalebout. 'That has to be the case. Besides the fact that this is of course our own standard, we also want to provide the guests who come here to eat every day with a decent and healthy meal.'

Don't leave the house hungry
In addition to the a la carte menu, there is also a daily changing snack. Ranging from stews, German steak (seems to be very popular) or just a good schnitzel. And the garnishes are served in the old-fashioned way in containers. "You don't leave here hungry," says Dalebout. 'That is not the intention. So if you want an extra bowl of potatoes or vegetables, we'll just serve that. Without having to go to the cash register first.' WEEVA is open seven days a week from 17.00:23.00 PM to XNUMX:XNUMX PM.
