Anyone who wants to hang out under the lights after a drink in the pub is welcome Party café Shooters at the right place. Open every day until 5 o'clock in the morning, and the roof will be removed, that is policy.
The Shooters' steps
The entrance is in the middle of Groningen's nightlife street, Peperstraat of course. Once inside, you reach the top of the party atmosphere via the well-known narrow stairs. Many shooter-goers have encountered that staircase in a less pleasant way. But in all those years, almost 25 of them now, that staircase has only resulted in 1 broken leg, says owner Marcel Levee. Let's just say that your body might give a little more in the middle of the night.
New concept
Marcel is no stranger to the catering world. He is the founder of Shooters in Groningen, as it is popularly called, and also has several catering businesses in the city. “Shooters was a completely new concept,” he says. 'Groningen did have cafés and discos at the time. Yes, and perhaps also some après-ski tents, but there was still no real party café here at the time.'
Crazy
"A party café is a party café for a reason," Marcel explains. 'An evening at the Shooters is an evening of going wild. It really is an old-school party café that is truly accessible to everyone. Songs of a maximum of 1,5 minutes are played to keep the tempo going. In principle, all music is covered. So from Dutch hits to danceable Top 40. As long as it benefits the atmosphere.'
"The bartenders also have to be a bit crazy to work there," Marcel continues. 'Complete with bells and whistles, active DJs and wearing shorts, they ensure that it becomes a complete madhouse.' Of course, the shots should not be missed. The cow, Sambuca with Kahlua, is still a favorite in the café.
Door policy
Although the bars within the Diepenring have no closing time and are all allowed to be open 24 hours, Marcel chooses not to do so with Shooters. 'We don't want to become an afterthought. So it is open until 5 am every day, but it must be completely empty by half past six.' And if you have consumed anything other than alcohol, you can count on not passing the bouncers. "We really hate that," Marcel emphasizes. 'I really don't want that here in my business.'
Party café Shooters is located in Peperstraat and is open every day of the week until 05.00 a.m.
