From the outside you wouldn't immediately see that behind the facade there is a restaurant where more than 180 guests can eat at the same time. Imono in the Gelkingestraat in Stad is an Asian restaurant with an all you can eat concept. Unlimited sushi and other Asian dishes or all you can eat hotpot. And that for a fixed price per person, where you sit at the table for 2,5 hours.

Sushi became popular
Victor Wu is the owner of Imono and founded the business about 15 years ago. He also owns the Korean BBQ restaurant yammy, which is located in the Oosterpoort.
When sushi became popular, Wu stepped in and opened Imono. 'What started with 10 different types of sushi has now grown to a menu with 30/40 different types of sushi.'

Extensive menu
Furthermore, there are also many Asian dishes on the very extensive menu. Where most restaurants suffer from a large menu, this is a very conscious choice for Imono. 'We try to make our menu as extensive as possible for all target groups. We also continuously adjust our menu. We look at what is going well and what is not and what is popular at that moment. For example, there is not much interest anymore in the small sushi rolls with 1 ingredient such as cucumber (maki). We stop doing that.'

Gyoza filled with apple
To give you an idea of what you can choose from: there are meat dishes, noodle soup, poke bowls, dimsums, salads and even satay. And to finish you can choose a dessert like fried banana, a gyoza filled with apple and even churros.
New trends
Although sushi has been Imono's calling card for years, Wu also understands that you have to look closely at trends. 'Korean cuisine is currently very much on the rise', he says. 'The great thing about Korean cuisine is that it also has a bit of Dutch flavours. It's quite heavy, a bit spicy and a bit sweet. Take Korean sushi and Korean fried chicken, for example. As a restaurant, we definitely have to respond to this.'

Concept change
The familiar Imono as we know it now will change a bit next year. Soon it will become more of an experience, with dishes that get a new look and many new dishes on the menu. How that will look exactly, you have to keep an eye on yourself.
