Florentin is located outside the city center of Groningen, near the Ebbingekwartier. Also referred to simply as FLO. A total concept, as the owners call it themselves.
Florentine 'FLO'
Tom Bullinga and Emile Bos found inspiration for FLO in Tel Aviv, Israel. The Florentin district is emerging there and therefore very interesting. 'We just ate there for a week,' says Tom. 'They cook there with lots of herbs and spices and the dishes are often small so it's nice to share.' And that is exactly what FLO is all about. Having fun together, in a casual atmosphere, and just super delicious food.
The Tel Aviv feeling
The building where the restaurant is located is an old gas factory. It has a nice raw look, a bit Tel Aviv style. That fits well with their street food concept. The shop has rough, untreated walls, lots of plants and, moreover, a washing line with clothes hanging on it. Everything has been thought of to let you experience the real Tel Aviv feeling.
'Florentin is not Groningen,' says Tom. 'The flavors of the Middle East, combined with a touch of fusion. It's street food, but a little more towards fine dining.' The concept is designed in such a way that it is accessible to everyone. From 8 to 88 years old. Because you can share the dishes with each other, there is something delicious for everyone.
Balagan style
What you really shouldn't miss Florentin is the Balagan dessert. On the menu they sell this as: ”Balagan dessert, a disorderly, confusing, and/or overwhelming situation”. This Hebrew word means chaos. And that is exactly what you get when you order this. A paper on the table on which all kinds of different flavors and structures are spread by the service. A colorful and tasteful party to close with! Oh and how about the delicious homemade lemonades to quench your thirst…
The menu is updated every 4 to 6 weeks and some runners, such as the ceviche with wasabi ice cream, come back once in a while. Enough to discover!
You find restaurant Florence Groningen at Langestraat 66 in Groningen.
