Wholesale Makro is going to reorganize and set a new course. The investment will require $50 million over the next three years, but will also cost 600 jobs. A new formula is being worked on. “Building and strengthening the Makro brand.” According to Topman Kef van Helbergen, Misset Horeca reports.
Makro has chosen to focus on the shops from now on. The food strategy will play a significant role in the stores, meeting places must be created for independent entrepreneurs and online ordering will be phased out. @FoodClicks.
To make room for the new concept, the choice was made to halve the range. The fresh 'food department' does receive more attention. The space that is gained is used for inspiration, meeting and workplaces and makes way for permanent shop-in-shops or (temporary) pop up stores. By presenting all food and food-related products together in a logical way, the wholesaler hopes to give entrepreneurs ideas and to inspire them.
Van Helbergen: “We give our customers several reasons to visit our branches and do their shopping there. Our new store concept offers an improved shopping experience. This will lead to more visits to our stores. Makro also wants to become an inspiring place where entrepreneurs like to come to work or meet each other.”
Makro wants to respond to the changing needs of independent entrepreneurs and the new way of working. That is why workplaces and meeting rooms are offered to entrepreneurs, including support services. This gives entrepreneurs the opportunity to use their time efficiently. In addition, various network meetings will be organized in the shops and programs will be set up with speakers about current affairs and issues that entrepreneurs are confronted with or encounter.
