Last weekend the lustrum edition of pop festival 'Kadepop' took place on the former Suiker Unie site in Groningen. The two-day festival that was located on the EMG Faktors site for the past four editions, this year was on a new and much larger site, which presented a challenge for both the organization and its visitors.
The varied line-up with bands such as De Staat, Haevn, Dewolff and Delikt, brought together a mixed program on the stages and an equally diverse audience. The programming this year was occasionally a bit strange, for example, the closing Saturday evening performance of 'de Staat' on the mainstage (indoor stage) was nothing compared to the party that the men from Delikt built with the audience, on the Hooghoudt stage (outdoor stage). ). With the spectacular final performance of Typhoon still in mind at Kadepop 2015, it was striking that a larger area and larger stages do not specifically increase the festival atmosphere. In addition, the band sound in the hall of the mainstage (concrete factory hall) was difficult to control and it was sweltering hot.
Overall, the festival site looked a lot 'slicker' than the previous editions. Plenty of drinking and dining options and many seats due to the larger festival surface. However, there were also some problems with electricity, crowd management and the meager toilet facilities for such a large event. The more than 6000 visitors to this lustrum edition were able to enjoy themselves on Saturday and Sunday, partly thanks to the beautiful weather, with a day program from 14:00 PM to the closing afterparty until 02:00 AM with DJ 'De Rooie Jager'. The festival Sunday started at 13:00 PM and Kadepop 2016 ended with closing act 'My Baby' on Sunday evening.
