After the successful first edition in 2015, the special Jazz te Gast festival will have an ambitious sequel on 10 June. A selection of national and international artists perform on 8 stages in the gardens of the main street De Gast in Zuidhorn. In the evening there is a grand closing concert with the entire North Pole Orchestra. The artistic direction of this edition is in the hands of the famous American trumpeter Dave Douglas together with the acclaimed guitarist Reinier Baas.
Jazz te Gast 2017 brings together idiosyncratic combinations of top artists in the atmospheric gardens of De Gast. Dave Douglas (Artist in Residence) and Reinier Baas (Artist Entrepreneur) are responsible for the artistic core of the festival. They invite a group of prominent Dutch, German, Swedish and American jazz musicians to jointly create brand new material in a short period of time. Joris Roelofs, Nora Fischer, Michael Moore, Jonas Burgwinkel, Ben van Gelder and Petter Eldh participate in this 'Green House'. The musicians meet in the village on the day before the festival and work there, in the houses aan de Gast, on new material in new combinations. They present it to the public the next day in short, fresh concert sets in the gardens aan de Gast. Music will also be composed especially for the festival. Jazz te Gast is unique in the Netherlands with this set-up.
In addition to this 'Green House', ensembles such as TBA, Sanem Kalfa & George Dumitriu & Demydczuk invite to Jazz te Gast and the Noordpool Troupe ft. Janne Schra performing! A special Talent Stage offers space for up-and-coming talent from the area.
In the evening a collaboration between the soloists of the 'Green House' and the North Pole Orchestra takes place. Tickets for this unique evening concert are available via the website for €16,50 excl. service costs.
