VMany catering entrepreneurs have fanatically started working with the catering industry since the closure of the catering industry delivery and collection of meals† Others chose to remain closed and got to work with a major cleaning or a small upgrade of their business. And then there is another group that has closed the case, but has doubts. Because is it financially attractive to start with pick-up and delivery? Is the effort it requires worth the returns? This is the decision you have to make.
Influence on your financial allowance
A few weeks ago, the government introduced the Emergency Fund Bridging Employment as a compensation for entrepreneurs during this time of crisis. This arrangement can be applied for since this week and offers a financial compensation for the loss of turnover that many entrepreneurs are currently dealing with. A question that arises among many catering entrepreneurs is whether starting with delivery and collection affects the amount of this allowance.
Lawyer Jan Erik van der Wolf said about this in the Bid food webinar: “I estimate that the income you get from delivery and collection will have an effect on the amount of the allowance. If you can take measures yourself to maintain your turnover, so that instead of a 100 percent loss of turnover you only have a 50 percent loss of turnover because you can switch to delivery, then it could just be that you cannot receive the 90 percent compensation from the wage costs, but only 45 percent.”
However, this certainly does not mean that it is by definition wiser to keep the doors closed.
Limit losses
Everyone must make the choice whether or not to start with delivery and collection for themselves and have it properly calculated by his or her own tax specialist. But in general it can be said that the advantage of delivery and collection is that you can contact with your guests during this time of crisis. There is a good chance that this will have a positive financial effect when you can open again later. In addition, it can already have a pretty positive effect on your finances. In this calculation example NTF clearly shows that the financial situation at the moment – whatever you choose – is anything but rosy, but that you can considerably limit your loss for this period by collecting and delivering.
Too much effort, too little return?
A frequently heard argument for not (yet) starting delivery and collection is the fear of too much hassle and that all the effort put into it does not outweigh the (financial) returns. However, when it comes to delivery and collection, you can make it as complicated as you want. You can with a very accessible menu and start without too much investment. In addition, you can your own order website within a day live, so that guests can find you quickly and can easily place their order. We say: let's go!
