On April 22, 2016, a pop-up drone café will open on the Campus of the Technical University in Eindhoven. Drones will take the orders here and then deliver them; that way, staff and drones work together in daily life.
Six drones will fly in the cafe via a fixed, programmed route. The idea is to have the guest point to the order on a map. The drone then passes this on to a second 'colleague drone' and the bartender will then make the order and pass it on to the drone that serves it afterwards. In this way, the bar staff has more time and space to pay attention to the hospitality, in addition to preparing drinks.
The initiative lies with Blue Jay Eindhoven and consists of a team of engineering students from Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e). In collaboration with project studio Cornelis Serves the pop-up café is being set up to celebrate the university's 60th anniversary. In this way one can experience how people and technology can work together in daily life.
For catering staff, no fear of flying competition in the future; the initiative does not aim or intend to replace the catering staff. The designers only want to show what creative and technological possibilities there are with drones.
The pop-up drone café is open from April 22 to 24 on the Campus van de Eindhoven University of Technology.
