They are both gone…the Peerd of Ome Loeks and Vénus, the Horse of Pascal Agrapart.
The latter is less known to the Groningen public, but I would like to introduce it. In January 2010 I visited Pascal Agrapart in the French Champagne community of Avize with my wife.
An organically producing champagne farmer with only a production of 80.000 bottles per year (Moët & Chandon approx. 30.000.000 bottles per year) certainly knows how to market terroir and its own style. We visit the vineyards and very special 2 long rows that Pascal only works with his horse Vénus, this to preserve the open structure of the soil. Result : a Vénus 2005 Brut Nature Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru (= 100% Chardonnay grapes). The Peerd van Ome Loeks sustained an injury to his nostrils and became ill and eventually died “hailendal”. Fortunately, Pascal Agrapart has a nose for good champagne, which fortunately is also served in the Groningen catering industry. health!
