You have opened a delicious bottle of red wine, but it is far from empty. And then? You know that the wine is often not so tasty the next day.
What can you do about that?
The solution is simple: the bottle is vacuumed with a pump and a rubber cork. This helps, just not as much as we always thought.
Research has shown that manually vacuuming a bottle only helps a little. There is a way to keep opened bottles of wine longer, namely in the refrigerator and/or refrigeration. Especially red wines that come into contact with oxygen deteriorate rapidly, but in the refrigerator the quality decreases much less quickly. This is especially true for red wines that have been aged in wood, for example a Rioja aged in wood.
Such wines oxidize very quickly and are often undrinkable a day after opening. But if the wine is put cold after the bottle has been vacuumed, the wine is still perfectly drinkable after a few days because the oxidation process has been delayed.
So the wine deteriorates a lot less. Keep in mind that the wine comes up to temperature first.
Cheers!
