“They are grey, stopped working, have been traveling on a pink strip card for ages and… they want to flame one more time! In Golden Oldies, Ruben Nicolai puts together a choir of forty elderly people from The Hague to work towards a spectacular concert in the Royal Theater Carré”.
Have you ever seen it? The concert can finally be seen on Saturday evening on BNN and next week. A few weeks ago, while zapping, I ended up on the public channel; the 3 blond ladies of the commercial have become a bit of a test image….yes I mean Wendy van Dijk, Linda de Mol and Chantal Janzen, and I have become tired partly because of their quiz and talent show presentations. But luckily there are the GOLDEN OLDIES: towards the end of their lives they get even more out of it than anyone would expect. If you would let them sing the withdrawn King's Song, we would talk less about the content, but we would beam about the performance.
This brings me to the surprise of the week: Chateau Moulinet Pomerol 2000. In the tasting note I wrote at the time to drink up to 10 years after the harvest. However, when I tasted a lost bottle, I was pleasantly surprised! Complex red wine with beautiful aging scents and light oak. The taste sets in full, soft and creamy and lingers very pleasantly. Wonderful with roast beef, refined game dishes or outside the meal to drink Golden Oldies during the broadcast. TOP!
