NAfter 26 editions, the publishing house Vakmedianet has decided to stop organizing the Café Top 100. In recent years, despite the hard work of the Misset Horeca team, there has been too little growth in the number of participants. Sponsorship income also fell short of expectations.
It has always been an instructive process for the cafes participating in the election, which often led to small and larger points for improvement for the team via the jury reports and the reports from the mystery visits. The election generated extra turnover and media attention for the winners.
The decision to stop nevertheless is explained by publisher Geert van den Bosch:
'A number of factors led to this difficult decision – the Café Top 100 is an institution after all. The main reason is that despite the many efforts from the team, jury members, ambassadors and sponsors, the number of participants has not grown in recent years. The labour-intensive election had been a loss-making operation for years. In addition, the Misset Horeca team invested a lot of time in the election, which I think we should better invest in other initiatives. We would like to thank participants, jury members and partners for their efforts and involvement in recent years.'
