VTonight was the presentation of the Café Top 100 in Nijkerk, which featured four Groningen companies. The winner of the Café Top 100 2019 is located in the heart of Rotterdam. Café Sijf on the Oude Binnenweg managed to convince mystery visitors as well as the professional jury and main jury. Old-fashioned cosiness with modern business management. 'Sijf does not move with the times, time moves with Sijf.'
Issue 22: The Old Guard
De Oude Wacht is a beautiful place on the Gedempte Zuiderdiep in Groningen. And as number 22 it can call itself Province winner for the first time.
And that is an achievement to be proud of. After all, being the best in a city with The Pintelier, The Horn, The Suitcase and Café Wolthoorn & Co, just to name a few, is something to be proud of. Four cafes in the northern provincial capital are on the list in 2019, and De Oude Wacht is the highest ranked with this 22nd place.
When we visit the place, there are three members of staff working. It's busy, but they've got it under control. And that's great, because there are guests both inside and outside. But there is attention for everyone, time is spent on every guest. Whether it is serving a drink or a snack, advice or an answer to a question, at De Oude Wacht it goes smoothly. A well-oiled machine.
Number 28: The Pintelier
If Groningen were a cake, De Pintelier would be the cherry on top. Eric Harder has been running his Belgian Beer Café here since 1997, supported by a fabulous team of employees.
We actually wanted to say enthusiasts, but that may sound a bit hobby-like, while we are dealing with professionals here. Only professionals with a lot of love for the profession. A visit to De Pintelier is an experience that you wish everyone.
Number 45: The Suitcase
De Koffer Groningen is not located in the busy center of the city, it takes some searching. Although that is of course a piece of cake with Google Maps today.
De Koffer Groningen is a real beer café and member of the ABT. No fewer than twelve taps adorn the bar. What comes out of those taps is clearly indicated. Both in and outside.
Number 77: The Horn
You notice from everything that we are dealing with a good and beautiful catering company. We therefore start this ode to whisk(e)y & special beer café De Toeter Groningen with the closing words of the jury in the professional jury report:
"I wish this company was in my city."
Those words actually summarize everything we have to say about De Toeter Groningen.
