Bos&Bos Catering will take café-restaurant in the new year House the Bourse in the center of Groningen. The twenty staff members are going with the new owner.
For John and Renske Bos from Groningen, the takeover of the cafe on the corner of Folkingestraat and A-Kerkhof is something completely different than they are used to. Most of the pastimes they have acquired over time include activities. They manage the restaurants of the Groninger Museum, the Drents Museum, the Groninger Forum, the TThall, Groningen Airport Eelde and until recently the Infoversum. Only restaurant it Sterrebos Pavilion has no secondary activity.
,,Running a classic café like Huis de Beurs is really a different sport'', says Renske Bos. ,,This opportunity was so fantastic; such a top building in the most beautiful place in the city, in the heart of the city centre. We couldn't let them go."
Bos does not intend to make any changes to the cafe's set-up for the time being. “We are going to clean everything, but will leave the cafe as it is for the coming year. A nice old-fashioned pub with a living room atmosphere downstairs and a large banquet hall for over 300 people upstairs and all kinds of rooms that are handy for meetings."
At the end of the summer, the café restaurant went on silent sale. The Iranian Arash Barghi is currently still in control of the company that takes its name from the neighboring Korenbeurs and where the regulars drink a cup of coffee and read the newspaper in the morning. In the evenings there are regular receptions, galas, student parties and meetings in the upstairs room.
After the takeover, little will be changed in the lunch and dinner menu for the time being, Bos promises. ,,A satay, sole or a bouncer simply remain on the menu. At most, we do something about the way of serving, for example on a shelf to give it a more sturdy, Burgundian character."
Son Emile Bos has partly become a co-shareholder of Huis de Beurs. The 20-year-old is in the third year of the hotel school and has written the business plan for the cafe for his education.
Renske Bos: ,,Emile is going to do his practical internship at Huis de Beurs to gain experience. In time, he could become the face of the café-restaurant, but it is still too early for that.”
In January the caterer in the restaurant of the airport in Eelde. In the second half of January, the rooms and the terrace will be renovated and the restaurant will be given a new look. "We hope to show the new result at the airport at the end of January," says Bos.
