Garnwerd, the small wierde village in Groningen, celebrated the 1th anniversary of the well-known Café Hammingh last Sunday, May 2016, 180. The catering facility, which is centrally located on the dike of the small village, organized a day with activities for its guests.
The Groningen village of Garnwerd has been home to this establishment since 1836 and is still able to welcome many walking, cycling, permanent and traveling guests here to this day.
Bouldag Bie Diek
As usual, the Bouldag Bie Diek was announced at 9 o'clock in the morning by the village crier, resulting in a spectacle of IOVIVAT, the association for amateur theaters in Garnwerd. After that time, you could enjoy a cup of coffee offered by Beukenhorst and from 10.30am you could enjoy a performance by a musical group. The Unity† Attention was also paid to traditional activities such as 'kouhakken', an auction of scrap wood, the shipbreaking booklet was presented and time was eventually made available for the Hammighbier Slicht en Recht (brewed by Brewery Martinus) and the Hammingh game.
Hammingh
The cafe has been run by three generations of Hammingh for over a hundred years. Egbert Hammingh junior and his wife Fenna Hammingh-Zwartsenburg were the last of the family. The café has been run by Bert Lange and Margriet van der Spek since 1993, RTV Noord reports. In addition to the cafe, the Hammingh family also owned a shipyard. Once a year, on the so-called 'Bouldag', the scrap wood from this company was auctioned in the village and reused for building houses and the like.
In addition to an attractive café with access to a terrace on the water, the venue also includes a restaurant and accommodation options in the Doorrit or the Brugwachtershuis. In addition, the company offers various locations for room rental.
