The Kromme Elleboogbuurt in Groningen is a gem richer. As of today, September 5, 2017 at 17:00 PM, Bellami's – Bar à Manger is open. Once inside, you imagine yourself in a classically French bistro where you are welcomed for lunch, drinks and dinner.
Owners Maeyke Schooljan and Sebastiaan Schokker have gone through a hectic time to make the 'Bar à Manger' what it is today.
“We didn't see what it looked like until five minutes before we threw open the doors.” Thus, a proud Sebastian.
The classic black and white interior with an old mirrored wall is reminiscent of a 30s grand café in Paris. The details are indispensable. The big eye-catcher in the whole is the centrally placed, handmade zinc bar. It is surrounded by a variety of chic furniture that is yet very accessible and comfortable.
Inspiration
A piece of the black and white wallpaper and the well-known stained glass windows of the building were the inspiration for the whole, says Maeyke. “A property has its properties and characteristics. Just like a human. You should not want to change that, but rather respect it.” The trick then is to give those characteristics their deserved attention. No sooner said than done. “I'm so happy with how it's all coming together.”
Passion & experience
Both persons have passion for and experience in the Groningen hospitality industry. She, former owner of Grand Café Hooghoudt and Brasserie Bij van Boven, he was popular bartender a few years ago at, among others Café Wolthoorn & Co† Together they have called the Luxury Bed & Breakfast 'Icon Suite' in Turftorenstraat. While there were first plans to leave for Maastricht, it was eventually decided to stay in Groningen when it became known that the building of restaurant Muller was becoming vacant.
French menu
The aperitif & delicatessen bar is today announcing its menu, based on French cuisine. In addition to the fixed bistro menu, at least six 'plats du jour' are offered every day, tailored to the daily offer and season. In any case, we have been excited so far with an aperitif of cottage cheese, Munster, walnut and chives. We were also allowed to taste a bisque of shrimps with cream and Bellami's promises to present beautiful meats and especially cheeses with matching wines. That tastes like more. From Friday September 8, Bellami's will be open for lunch.
