On Monday 3 October 2016, the fourth edition of the North Dutch Barista Championships (NNBK), the barista competition of the North, will take place during the fifth and lustrum edition of Horecabeurs Noord Nederland. The authentic Groningen Martinikerk will once again provide space for the exciting competition in which professional (beginning and advanced) baristas compete against each other.
The match
During the fourth edition of the NNBK competition in 2016, each participant makes two espressos and two cappuccinos. Each participant has a maximum of ten minutes to do this.
An espresso machine of the brand Victoria Arduino is used for this, which is provided by supplier Mocca d'Or. Milk is supplied by Friesche Vlag and Campina. All the further necessary material is available at the competition, the participant may only bring his/her own coffee and coffee grinder (grinder).
A three-member jury of experts will judge the baristas on technical actions, presentation of the drinks, competition area and general impression. The winner wins a cup, eternal fame and can call herself 'Best Barista of the Northern Netherlands 2016 / 2017'.
Preliminary rounds
To arrive at a number of eight finalists, two preliminary rounds are organized. These will take place on Sunday 26 June and Sunday 31 July 2016 at World of Barista, Grote Markt 35 in Groningen.
Oorganization and workshops
Led by Ulas Tarakci, official SCAE Authorized Barista Trainer & Certifier and also owner of World of Barista, the competition will take place between the eight finalists from the preliminary rounds. In addition to organizing the competition, Tarakci will also give various (free) Barista workshops that are accessible to every visitor to the fair in order to expand their personal knowledge in the field of coffee.
