OOn Saturday December 16, Baxbier will organize the first edition of 050 brews in collaboration with students from the minor Event Management of the Hanze University of Applied Sciences. At the same time, 25 hobby brewers compete to brew the most beautiful beer within a certain style. They compete against each other on their own installations for a fantastic price: In addition to the title of Best Hobby brewer in the Northern Netherlands, the best beer will be brewed again in the spring of 2018 in the Baxbier kettles, and released as a special in the Original beer. 050-Series. The beer style is now known. We are going to ensure that the Groningen Kluinbier is put back on the map!
During the tasting and award ceremony on Sunday 18 February, all beers will be thoroughly assessed by a professional jury. This promises to be a festive day, where everyone can taste each other's brews and the winner takes the honors!

Groningen Kluin beer
Groningen has traditionally been a real beer city, with more than 80 breweries at its peak. Many of these were concentrated around the Hoge der A, where brewing was done with water from the Drentsche Aa. The best-known type of beer from that bygone era is Kluin (or Kluun) beer. Groningers even owe their nickname 'Kluunkoppen' to it. It is a dark, heavy and sweet beer that has been wildly popular throughout the North for centuries. In the 19th century it fell into disrepair, and in the early 20th century it almost completely disappeared. It has been brewed by small breweries, but not in the way we intend to now!
050Brouwt has set itself the goal of making a substantial contribution to the Groningen beer culture and putting Groningen back on the map as a true beer city. We therefore not only want to breathe new life into Kluinbier, but above all bring it fully into the 21st century, using all the new techniques, knowledge and ingredients available.
The assignment for 050Brouwt 2017 is therefore: Brew a Kluinbier. Do your research, think outside the box and create a beer that Groningers in 2017 can be just as proud of as they used to be! Exotic hops, herbs, lighter in alcohol, roasted malts, fruit additives, everything is possible as far as we are concerned.
On the brewing day we provide the basic ingredients. The exact package will be announced as soon as possible. You as brewers are completely free to play with those proportions, and to add a maximum of two unique ingredients (so you can/must bring your own). We also provide the yeast, which is mandatory.
