From Friday 18 to Sunday 20 March, the third edition of the Amsterdam Coffee Festival will take place in and around the Westergasfabriek. The festival is now the largest event in the Benelux that revolves around coffee culture.
The event is designed to showcase the coffee industry as well as coffee lovers the best coffee brands, independent coffee shops and talented baristas. At the festival, you can taste many different (new) types of coffee, try out the latest equipment and technologies, but also increase your knowledge.
Exclusive
The coffee roaster and the Illy brand sponsors various workshops, demonstrations and presentations about roasting coffee, espressos but also latte art. You can also enjoy the VIP Food Pairing Experience: the restaurant 'Scandinavian Embassy' will set up a pop-up restaurant in the VIP suite The Apartment during the Amsterdam Coffee Festival. The three-course dinner served is a special pairing of beautiful dishes and coffee.
Matches
In addition, the Amsterdam Coffee Festival hosts three SCAE NL barista championships. One of these is the Dutch Barista Championship in which six finalists – originating from previous preliminary rounds – compete against each other. Each barista is expected to make four identical cappuccinos, espressos and their own creations, which are then judged by a jury of experts. The winner then represents the Netherlands at the world championship, in which more than fifty countries participate.
The second competition is the Dutch Brewerscup, in which baristas compare different filter methods; traditional methods will be weighed down with the latest techniques.
You can also participate in the 'Dutch Cup Taster' competition in which baristas compete to be the one who can taste what the coffee drinker doesn't realize, but what makes the difference. The point here is that the 'taster' can distinguish different coffee differentiations and coffee flavours.
Finally, tea lovers can also come to observe competition tension. The four finalists have fifteen minutes to make three types of tea. They make a self-chosen tea in it, tell them about the brewing method (infusion) and where the tea comes from. The last round is a tea/food combination, in which the finalist presents his signature tea with a matching dish.
