On Wednesday 22 June, the musical HAIRSPRAY premiered during ImpressFest, the annual showcase festival of Noorderpoort Kunst & Multimedia. The musical is organized in honor of the school's tenth anniversary.
The international hit musical, organized, produced and performed by students of Noorderpoort Kunst & Multimedia, premiered last Wednesday evening. From designer to artist, stage technician to event organizer and from musician to filmmaker or game designer: together with professionals, each direction has worked and sweated for months within the school to realize the performance. It is well worth the effort. The music is swinging, the story heartwarming and the cast extremely enthusiastic.

The musical was well received during the first evening for the general public.
“Glee reigns supreme, propped up by an overdose of songs and fledgling crushes in a well-defined 60s portrait that unfolds in Baltimore.” A day earlier, four stars were awarded by reviewer Jacques d'Ancona in the Dagblad van het Noorden. “The result stands out in terms of production. They succeed in combining factors such as costuming, lighting, choreographies and music (a nice band on two stages) in a glowing and surprising way with audiovisual elements.”
The musical
HAIRSPRAY takes you to the sixties, where glittery dresses, high hairstyles and above all a lot of hairspray are indispensable on the streets. Tracy Turnblad is a big girl, with a bigger haircut and an even bigger dream: to dance her way to national television, as well as into the heart of teen idol Link Larkin. During a bitter and musical battle for Miss Hairspray's crown, Tracy fights for the participation of everyone, regardless of skin color, on the show.

Hairspray can be admired until 2 July in the festival tent on the lawn behind Noorderpoort Kunst & Multimedia, Verzetsjagerslaan 2.
