Last weekend Felix Huisken and Marjolein Smit returned from the Austrian Obertrum am See as certified beer sommeliers. At the BIERkulturHAUS there, they completed the last part of a training program that started earlier with the StiBON training in the Netherlands.
Diploma-Biersommelier is an international title and one of the highest diplomas for beer knowledge and treatment. A total of 16 Dutch beer sommeliers joined last weekend, bringing the total number to around 40. Felix Huisken van cafe Singelier in Helpman and Marjolein Smit from Bierlokaal Cafe de Koffer the first Groninger Biersommeliers are located in the Schildersbuurt.
During the training, the many different facets of beer and beer treatment were discussed, such as the different phases of the brewing process, tasting, compiling a beer list and combining beer and food. Both Groningen beer sommeliers hope to be able to use the acquired knowledge to introduce more and more people to the many beautiful beers that are brewed worldwide, but certainly also in their own country.
