Students, employees and guests of the University of Groningen will order their sandwich, soup, salad or hot meal from a new supplier from 2 January. The University of Groningen and the northern caterer Beijk Catering signed a contract this week for the care of 10 Food & Drinks locations in the city of Groningen. The 25 Food & Drinks employees will all remain employed by the University of Groningen and will be seconded to Beijk Catering.
Reason and award
The wishes and needs of staff and students have changed in recent years. For example, every year more international students study at the University of Groningen and topics such as healthy nutrition and sustainability have become more important. In order to better connect with the guests, it was decided to choose an 'expert'.
The University of Groningen was the last university in the Netherlands to run its catering facility in-house. The tenderers of the tender were assessed on the topics of internationalization, customer satisfaction, health & vitality and sustainability & environment. After several rounds, Beijk Catering came out with the highest rating. For Beijk Catering, this 'award' means the fulfillment of a long-cherished wish and a 30% growth in the number of catering locations.
Changes for the students and staff
From 10 January 8, Beijk Catering offers various concepts for the interpretation of the 2018 locations, such as the Chef Serveert concept: catering in a catering jacket where the employee behind the counter prepares the dishes on the spot. Chef Serveert stands for healthy and tasty in an attractive environment. At Chef Serveert, guests can enjoy sandwiches, soups, salads and hot dishes. In addition to the fixed range, Chef Serveert offers a monthly varying offer: two specials, such as a healthy wrap with a surprising filling and a delicious panini; invested just a little differently. Chef Serveert also presents two new 'combideals' every month. These are often sandwiches with a juice for a competitive price. Then there is the monthly changing Chef's Special Menu with, for example, a green salad, rich sandwich and drink for an attractive price. Of course there is a wide range for the vegetarian or vegan guest.
Illy Cafés provide hot drinks, sandwiches, juices, smoothies and freshly baked confectionery. Illy is a leader in the 'premium coffee segment' and stands for innovation and excellent coffee quality. At the 'shop in shop' Yam Yam to Go, guests can put together their own Asian dish. First you can choose from a base of noodles or rice and then the topping (meat, fish or vegetarian). These warm dishes, which are served in noodle boxes, can be taken away or eaten in the restaurants.
